‘Mumfest’ is a charity day-fest which ran for the first time on the 10th of December 2023, in aid of multiple cancer related charities that help to fund the care and treatment plans at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool. The show came about after my mum Lesley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and subsequently treated at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (alongside the New University hospital in Liverpool). Initially the idea came about whilst chatting with some close friends about what my mum was going through, and how as a result of the treatment, its side effects and previously the covid 19 pandemic, she hadn’t been to a live music show in over four years. As a keen follower of the Brighton music scene, she was gutted to be missing out on what was going on, so after a few more conversations we thought ‘Why not put a
surprise show on for her?’ and thus ‘Mumfest’ was born!
A year on, I’m delighted to say mum has been given the all clear, completed her chemotherapy and is continuing with her recovery! In the aftermath of last year’s Mumfest I’ve had so many incredible conversations with people who attended or heard about the show, who wanted to share their own/their families experience with battling cancer, and these conversations as well as the success of last year’s event motivated us to go again.
We want to run this year’s event to continue our support for the charities closest to the cause, as well as to provide a space for those facing their own battles to find a supportive network.
